Teleradiology is a method of reading and reporting of radiology images from a distance using telecommunication systems.
The radiology images are of varied nature and size depending on modality. The radiology images could be obtained from MRI Console or CT Console or X-ray or other consoles. Teleradiology process just like Tele-medicine needs different hardware and software to do so. Once this method is adopted, the fellow radiologist could be free to report cases from anywhere. He or she can do it any any time. Unless there are additional settings, there is less scope for interaction with technicians or patients during the image acquisition in teleradiology. There are significant benefits of Teleradiology.
This is in contrast with traditional method of reading and reporting. In traditional method, the radiologist is required to be situated near the scanner or machine console where the patient is undergoing the scanning process. Radiologist can physically interact and change the protocols if needed. However, radiologist presence is needed in very few cases. There are few real challenges of Teleradiology but they can be dealt with process innovation.
Over the period the methods of image transfer have changed in radiology practice. Today, we have the best internet speeds and resolutions available to radiologists anywhere and anytime for teleradiology. Thanks to highly refined PACS developed by TeleradiologyHub and other !
