Check if your Health Insurance covers cost of MRI Scan and MRI Second Opinion fees

Health Insurance traditionally said to cover medical expenses related to hospitalisation. While diagnostic expenses are considered out of the hospital, they are not covered under old Insurance plans. Slowly, as the medical care is expanding to pre-hospitalisation and post-hospitalisation, new Insurance plans are getting crafted keeping patient care and wellbeing at the centre of product design; covering additional expenses of diagnosis and targeted treatment. Insurer patients must demand inclusion of MRI or CT scans. However, insurance cover for Second Opinion might be granted, but it could be a challenge.

Increased Health Insurance Cost

There is a rising cost of healthcare in every country. The developed nations are now phasing out the welfare mechanism in healthcare. Private healthcare is increasingly expensive and overly dependent on medical insurance. This gives rise to the health insurance premiums. Developing nations are seeing uncontrolled inflation, increased cost of living and income disparities that is making the standard population feel the pressure of the cost of private medical treatments. If available, the treatments are expensive. The evident premium of health insurance or medical insurance anywhere is rising astronomically, not in the same ratio as the national employment and wage structure.

Health Insurance and MRI Scans or CT Scans

The good news is that the oversofistication of the medical sector and innovations in diagnostic tools are compelling to find diagnostics as mainstay in Insurance business for various reasons. Economics and buying behavior is important. The cost of diagnosis is indistinguishable from treatment cost in a patient's mind and good if some plans cover both in the rising healthcare costs. This is well heard by the Private Insurance Companies. The second reason for them to like the diagnostic like MRI and CT scan to tap the leakage in insurance claims. MRI and CT scan images do present the factual image of a patient's condition at that point of time and therefore provides the best evidence for the insurance claim. It limits the malpractices and saves the company from bleeding due to unnecessary medical claims. More and more health policies are offering the cover to cases of BI requiring MRI Brain or tiehr traumatic cases covering diagnostics majorly MRI and CT scan. This is not applicable for diagnostic cases under preventive health-check up.

Health Insurance and  MRI Second Opinion or CT Second Opinion

Second opinion in diagnostics like MRI and CT scan is a new demand from the patient community. It is rising in some pockets. The Insurance plans are designed looking at economic conditions and buying behavior of the patients but they are prone to changes with new demands if they come in loads. As of now the demand for MRI second opinion or CT Scan Second opinion is selective. There aren't many standardized service providers. Some countries do not recognise the second opinion given by the radiologist living in other countries whereas the legality of second opinion can be always challenged. The second opinion fee varies with country and the radiologist affiliation. Obviously the radiologist from Europe and USA expect more fees for the second opinion than their counterparts in other countries. The question is why should the second opinion be made more attractive when the primary opinion serves the same purpose of being a diagnostic outcome. The second opinion helps to remove the fallacies or errors of 5 types from the primary opinion, it saves the cost of future surgery or treatment. This helps the Insurance Companies from bleeding. Second Opinion Practice can put a break on unnecessary demands for MRI or CT scans . This could again help the Insurance companies to save. For it, the radiologist can get rewards or disincentives. They could be rated and paid differentially for their reporting behavior at global level. The Panels can triage the opinions and remove the false errors in the primary report. The better the diagnostic system, the better is the usage of Insurance money.

TeleradiologyHub practices multi-panel Second Opinion of MRI and CT scans. The radiologists come from 24 countries. Patients can reach out to Enablement Specialists for commissioning second opinion  in just 3 Steps and reaffirm their faith or doubts on primary reading of MRI or CT scans.
